In early 2015, I was approached by my longtime colleague Brodie from my previous job at Sportsnet. He and his wife Rachel had decided it was time to take the step from renting to home ownership!
As first time buyers, I wanted to ensure that my two clients were completely comfortable with the process. I also wanted to make sure that they had the absolute best in the business when it came to lawyers, mortgage brokers and movers. In order to narrow down on the search, Rachel and Brodie applied for a mortgage pre-approval to determine their budget and ensure that there were no surprises.
As commuters, it was important for Rachel and Brodie to have easy access to the highway, but they also wanted their home to be located in a quiet, close knit community. Rachel and Brodie wanted to ensure that their home not only suited their current needs as a young couple, but that it would be suitable for a future family – meaning lots of space, multiple bedrooms and a spacious backyard. Fully prepared with a number in mind and a list of criteria for their new home, we started on the hunt for their perfect property!
After months of research, searching for properties online and going to showings, a house in Etobicoke came up for sale that met all of Rachel and Brodie’s needs. It had 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a great backyard and even a finished basement for extra space or an income property. Needless to say, it was love at first sight, and we put an offer in for it that day. After a few hours we had a signback – and two brand new first time homeowners! The couple was absolutely thrilled, and thanks to my trusted lawyer and team of movers, we had the deal firmed up and Brodie and Rachel all moved in within a month.
